  French fries a delicious, tasty and a very common snacks item eaten all over the world. But the French fries we routinely eat are deep fried & are loaded with fats, further they are made of Potatoes only; so it has a limited nutritional value. These Low Calorie French fries are prepared from different types of vegetables like, Potato, Red pumpkin, Bottle Gourd/Dudhi which can make them more nutritious. These French fries are not fried; they are baked/ roasted with barely 1 drop of oil which definitely reduces their caloric content. You can enjoy these low calorie French fries with your favorite dips like Khatta-Meetha Sauce or Mayonnaise like sauce for your snacks.

 

LOW CALORIE FRENCH FRIES

 

INGREDIENTS:

MAIN INGREDIENTS: 1. Potato – 3 (Medium size) 2. Red Pumpkin - 250 gm 3. Bottle Gourd (Dudhi) - 250 gm

MASALA: 1. Salt -  As per taste 2. Sundae Masala - 1/2 Tea spoon 3. Sesame Seeds - (Optional) 4. Mix Herbs - (Optional) 5. Chaat Masala - 1/2 Tea spoon 6. Oil for brushing - 1 Tea spoon

 

METHOD:

    • First wash all the 3 vegetables (Potatoes, Red pumpkin and Dudhi) properly with clean water.
    • Then Peel the skin off from Potatoes, Bottle Gourd (Dudhi) and Red pumpkin.
    • Now cut all these vegetables into thin and long (elongated) strips. Same as we cut for French Fries.
    • Now soak these cut vegetable strips into lukewarm water containing little turmeric and salt for 20 min.
    • After 20 minutes, drain the lukewarm water. Now wash these cut vegetable strips with clean water.
    • Now steam these vegetable strips in a kadhai (Pan) on a Gas burner/ Hotplate/stove as per choice and availability for 10-12 min.
    • After steaming these vegetables, keep a Tawa on Gas burner/Hotplate/Stove for heating and apply 1 drop of oil to it with the help of a brush.
    • Now put these French Fries (Thin and long strips of Potato, Red pumpkin and Bottle gourd (Dudhi) in a small amount on the Tawa (Pan) and roast them till they become golden brown and crispy.
    • Roast them from all the sides.

    OR

    • U can bake it in an Air-fryer or OTG (Oven) for 10 minutes or till they become golden brown.

    • Now add all the above mentioned masalas e.g. Chaat masala, Sundae masala, Sesame seeds, Mix herbs and salt as per taste.

    • Finally serve these French fries with your favorite sauce, Like, Tomato sauce/Mayonnaise like sauce/Khatta-Meetha sauce.
